YZ450F Engine
The YZ450F engine is a four-stroke DOHC engine that was first released in 2003. It is based on the earlier YZ426F engine but with several key changes that improve performance and durability. The most notable change is the addition of fuel injection, which replaced the carburettor in previous models. Other changes include a larger bore and stroke, a higher compression ratio, and revised intake and exhaust porting. The result is an engine that is more powerful and efficient than its predecessors, and can better withstand the rigors of competitive use.
Since its introduction, the YZF450 engine has been continually updated to keep it at the forefront of motocross technology. In 2007, a new crankshaft and connecting rods were introduced to improve durability. 2008 saw the addition of a cylinder head with revised intake and exhaust porting, and larger valves. 2009 brought a new combustion chamber design, higher compression ratio, and lighter piston. These changes resulted in an increase in power of approximately 5%.
